Caring for a UFO plant: Guide to a healthy Pilea

Thanks to its characteristic round leaves, which almost appear to be floating, the Pilea peperomioides is also affectionately nicknamed the "UFO plant". This name aptly reflects the fascinating appearance of the leaves, which are reminiscent of flying saucers. In recent years, the Pilea peperomioides has become increasingly popular and is enjoying great popularity as a decorative element in many homes around the world. Its modern yet timeless appearance makes it a trendy houseplant that not only brings a touch of extravagance, but also a dose of freshness and liveliness to any interior.

Location

The UFO plant feels most comfortable in bright locations with indirect light, otherwise the leaves become concave and lose color.

Temperature

Pileas can tolerate low temperatures, but they grow between 15°C and 18°C. When it comes to humidity, the Pilea tolerates both normal room humidity and higher humidity.

Watering

Watering Pileas is a little more difficult: the substrate should always be kept slightly moist. If it gets too dry or too wet, root rot can occur and the leaves can fall off.

Care

UFO plants are easy to propagate because the mother plant sprouts small offshoots from the soil all year round. When repotting annually, be careful not to damage the delicate roots, otherwise your Pilea could take offense.
