Anthuriums: How to care for the Flamingo Flower

Anthuriums, affectionately known as flamingo flowers, are very popular with plant lovers. Their appeal goes far beyond their colorful flowers - their mostly heart-shaped leaves also add to their fascination. These exotic plants, with their elegant leaves and bright flowers, give every room an expressive presence. Whether in the living room, office or as a stylish gift - anthuriums enrich the ambience with their beauty and enchant viewers with their unique combination of leaf and flower charm.

Location

Anthuriums prefer bright but indirect light. The mostly velvety, dark leaves should be protected from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn.

Temperature

Anthuriums thrive best in moderate heat of 18° to 23°C. If the air is too dry, the flamingo flower will get crispy edges or the new leaves will develop deformed, which is why the humidity should ideally be above 60%. The plant should therefore live in a greenhouse display case or be near a humidifier. (Make sure there is enough ventilation so that no fungal infection develops!)

Watering

Regular watering is very important for anthuriums. The substrate must be kept evenly moist. Therefore, anthuriums should always be planted in an airy substrate with good drainage so that no yellow spots/dots appear on the leaves after watering. In addition, your anthurium does not like water that is too calcareous.

Care

Your anthurium will most likely require a little more care than your other plants. This is mainly due to the high humidity requirements. In return, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful leaves in the entire plant world. Anthuriums grow rather compactly: the leaves can reach a size of up to 100cm.
